My Teaching Methods
I teach English as a Foreign Language to all ages, levels, and nationalities. I am a big fan of the communicative approach, so my online classes are geared towards sharpening your speaking skills; in each lesson, I encourage students to retell an English book or film that they have recently seen, while I listen carefully and correct the mistakes. For many repeated mistakes, I simply make a gesture to let the student know about the error, and in this way, students get the chance to correct their own mistakes. During the classes, I make notes on any errors and new vocabulary, and I send a copy of this lesson feedback after the class. For homework, I set reading, writing, and grammar tasks. I also give links to YouTube videos from my 'MrSkypelessons' channel, where I explain the grammar or vocabulary topic in great detail, so that students have access to my explanations even when we are not physically 'in a lesson'. In addition to hundreds of online video lessons, I have a vocabulary book for learning phrasal verbs.
I also teach grammar to natives who would like to deepen their understanding of punctuation and rhetoric. I use my own course book (Grammar in Theory and in Practice) which focuses on how to identify different grammatical structures in typical GCSE texts (Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Frankenstein, 1984). This course has been extremely popular among the teachers that I work with. I am confident that I can teach the same course to anyone that wants to improve their use of English.
